THE VELOCITY MAKERMOBILE

The MakerMobile is a collaboration between Velocity Indiana and San Francisco-based TechShop. The unit is a modified 32-foot trailer that is towed by a 2015 Ford F-250. On board is a variety of maker tools including 3D printers, laser cutters, a vinyl cutter, a CNC machine, laptop workstations and electronics kits.  The unit is designed for community outreach and education within the Kentuckiana area. Our mission is to expose the surrounding community to the Maker movement and get everyone plugged into areas where they can learn more about advanced manufacturing tools like the ones available on the truck.

The MakerMobile made it’s first public appearance in September of 2014 and is currently available for special events, corporate outreach/team building, and educational programs including school and community center visits.

Who is behind the MakerMobile?

BlueSky Foundation and Ogle Foundation made generous donations to get the unit off the ground, with Velocity Indiana & TechShop serving as presenting sponsors. We’re relying on a variety of other supporting sponsors to make sure the MakerMobile gets out and about town, including:  LVL1 and Samtec.

Who staffs the MakerMobile?

The MakerMobile is a volunteer-based effort that is headed up by Velocity Indiana, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the MakerMobile and for maintaining its schedule. We have a dedicated team of core volunteers who come from a variety of backgrounds and help us to run the unit at special events.  If you are interested in being a part of our volunteer efforts for the MakerMobile, please email us at info@velocityindiana.org.

How big is the MakerMobile?

Big.  The trailer is 32 feet long, and the truck adds another 15 feet.  For parking we need about 50 feet, with plenty of room to pull straight into, and straight out of the parking area.

  • Two Type-A 3D Printers
  • ShopBot CNC
  • Two Electronics Stations
